The Morning

There is the sun lapping at the walls.

A truck parks in the middle of the street
the words “Mike’s Whetting”
embossed, a dog sleeps on the seat.

The loudest wills are often the best

trees jettison austerely leaves
waft sarcastically.

Image of a bathtub filled;
a winking simmer.

Not sorry to have lost the morning
still I’ll stay.
And maybe make some pasta.
And also marvel a while

at pollen
coming off the screens.
                                    A man in down
removes them
from windows two at a time.
