Household Fires
We weren’t promised a summer
but expected one anyway.
This certain weakness of ours
was nearly imperceptible.
The bridge when it fails
fails gently. The pain I feel
is something I feel. The sick
glow of the streetlight
through the blinds. The weekend
refuses. When there’s a warning,
nothing happens.
Trapped inside these walls,
smoke gathers at the ceiling.
This didn’t turn into a love story,
but we don’t have regrets.
